¡Bienvenidos a la clase de español!
September 2022
Dear Parents of Spanish Students,
Welcome back to the 2022-2023 school year at Chicago World Language Academy. I am looking forward to an exciting year with your child in Spanish class! Please read the following information and expectations for our upcoming year:
**All students will have access to Google Classroom where assignments/projects and announcements will be posted.
Kindergarten, first and second grade Spanish programs are classroom centered. Students will have weekly to bi-weekly vocabulary words. Please look for vocabulary word lists/flash cards and practice them regularly with your child. The students will love teaching you Spanish, and will help you with the pronunciation and meanings. K-2 students will be tested verbally on their vocabulary.
Beginning in third grade, Spanish students start to study grammar and the written word. It is very important that the students bring their supplies to class every day. The students are expected to bring their homework assignment notebooks and record their assignments every day, along with a spiral notebook, pencil and a folder for Spanish. Online practice is required at home on a weekly basis.
Students in grades 3-8 will be regularly tested in Spanish vocabulary and grammar. It is the student’s responsibility to turn in assignments on time and study for these tests. Please have them create a Spanish section in their assignment notebooks and check it daily. Also, please regularly replenish Spanish school supplies. Online practice is required at home on a weekly basis.
I look forward to celebrating the many cultural events that CWLA offers our students. Some key celebrations in Spanish that we recognize are Hispanic Heritage Month (Sept 15-Oct 15), Mexican Independence (Sept 16), Day of the Dead (Nov 1-2) and Cinco de Mayo.
My goal is to successfully guide your child to achieve communication through the language of Spanish. Together we can build a foundation of good study habits by being proactive and incorporating the 7 Habits. Thank you for your support and cooperation as your child studies Spanish. I welcome any questions you may have.
¡Muchas Gracias! – Maestra Colón
